This is an open theme zine with no constraints on content. All ships are allowed! No ship hate here, we’re all about celebrating all the creativity that MXTX’s Scum Villain can inspire.

While we’d love to take every interested creator, to keep the zine size and amount of layout manageable, Lianhua will accept 50 contributors. We are seeking 15 writers, 35 artists (mods can contribute work but are not in this count).

Zine will be a 6x9in PDF that is of printable resolution. Lianhua will be distributed as free download and will not sold for profit.

Regarding NSFW works:
This is a R18 zine, readers and contributors beware.

NSFW is accepted for this zine. However, no underage and non-con/rape will be allowed. We ask that you provide appropriate warnings for anything that might be distressing. If you’re not sure whether your idea is acceptable or not, please don’t hesitate to ask the mods. We reserve the right to ask you to adjust your idea in case it does not fit with the zine’s requirements.

Work Requirements:
Writers: 1k word minimum, 3.5k maximum.
Artists: 300dpi RGB final work, 6x9in for single page. 12x9in for spread

Zine pieces must be original new work, no previous posted submissions. Collaboration between contributors is encouraged.

Requirements:
Writers: 750 word Scum Villain writing sample (from 1 or multiple stories)
Artists: 2 images of Scum Villain art

Applications are judged blinded and submissions will not be publically shared. Please do not add signatures or watermarks which can give away your identity.

Scoring:
All applications will be scored using a blind scoring system. We recognize that some stylistic signatures may hint at an applicant’s identity, but we try our best to keep the process as unbiased as possible. Mod Alli will remove names/signatures and assign all applications an ID number (she will not participate in scoring). The other mods will review applications and score them 1-5 on the following rubric dimensions. Applications with the highest sum scores total will be invited to participate (top 15 writers, top 35 artists)

Writing rubric dimensions:
Grammar, characterization, narrative, pacing

Art rubric dimensions:
Anatomy, composition, values/color, background

For the best chance to be invited, make sure your application showcases your skill in these dimensions. Writing is recommended to be a scene between characters, include some dialogue, and form a coherent narrative plot. As a basic example, a writing sample of just 750 words of landscape description would not do well as it does not include narrative or characters.

Likewise, at least one art sample should include color, backgrounds, full body character to show off your skill with anatomy. As a basic example, 2 portraits against flat color would not score well since it does not demonstrate anatomy, background, or composition.
